Group of Five and Friends Benevolent Society

This charity was started in 2004 by five New Westminster women with the goal of raising funds for the Royal Columbian Hospital emergency room. Every year, the charity finds out what equipment is needed and they hold events to raise funds to purchase the necessary equipment. Since inception, the Group of Five has donated over $200,000 in equipment to RCH including emergency vital signs monitors, trauma care equipment, airway management equipment, and more.

CTRS Cat Rescue and Therapy Society

This charity was founded in 2016 and specializes in special needs cats and kittens or cats that are going to be euthanized in remote shelters. Most of their cats reside in foster homes or several adoption centre locations. They also have a small cat sanctuary where the un-adoptable, special needs cats live. This charity is run by two women and a few volunteers who rely solely on donations for operations. In the first year, they rescued and found forever homes for over 800 cats!

New Westminster Hyack Festival Association

This charity was founded in 1971 and focuses on supporting youth and building community spirit through festivals and other events which help preserve the rich history and traditions of New Westminster. The Hyack Ambassador Program provides youth with an opportunity to experience, among other things, professional instruction in public speaking, volunteering and career development. The goal of the program is to positively influence their lives with skills that will last a lifetime. They are also the organizers for Hyack Festival Week, with the highlight of the Hyack International Parade on the last Saturday in May each year.
