Chartered Professional Accountant
The Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation emerged from the belief that Canada needs a single, unified accounting profession. All 40 of the accounting bodies in Canada have unified under the CPA banner.
A combined Canadian accounting profession, built on the strengths of three legacy designations (Chartered Accountant, Certified Management Accountant and Certified General Accountant), are more than 190,000 members strong and are better positioned to represent their interests in Canada and abroad. Unification has enhanced the influence, relevance and contribution of the Canadian accounting profession. The public interest is served by common codes of conduct, disciplinary systems and licensing regimes.
Burnaby – North Road History
North Road was originally developed as part of the plan to protect New Westminster from an American attack. Its purpose was to provide access to the ocean, via Burrard Inlet, should the Fraser River be blocked by ice during the winter. At the end of the road, land was reserved for a dock and blockhouse stocked with supplies and ammunition. The feared assault never materialised and North Road was used primarily by Royal City residents who wished to picnic at the beach. In the 1880s, the road was used more often as a route to Burrard Inlet where travellers could board a ferry for the City of Port Moody. Later the village of “Aliceville” developed at the end of the road with a railway station, two hotels and several summer cottages.
The road’s route over the mountain remained in use until the 1960s, when this section was closed to traffic. Today, North Road is a historic trail and the oldest road in the Lower Mainland.
